Enhancing Professional Practices for
Virtual Teaching and Learning
About
The Inter-institutional Collaborative Activities for Teaching Development and Language Enhancement (IICA-TDLE) project, titled “Standards, Synergies, and Support: Establishing a Shared Quality Assurance Framework for Online Learning and Teaching,” supports Hong Kong’s eight UGC-funded institutions in ensuring high-quality Virtual Teaching and Learning (VTL) aligned with institutional strategic goals. The project proposes a comprehensive VTL framework and benchmarking standards that can specifically be adapted and tailored specifically to each university's unique strategic planning approach, serving as a diagnostic and performance measurement tool, enabling stakeholders to shape policies, drive standardisation, enhance quality and inform institutional policy and strategy in the context of VTL.
Our
Inter-institutional Partners
A consortium of five participating universities is led by Lingnan University (LU) in collaboration with, and funded by, The University of Hong Kong (HKU), The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), and City University of Hong Kong (CityU), with in-kind support from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), will work together to develop a Hong Kong Quality Assurance Framework and Benchmarking Standards for Virtual Teaching and Learning.
Project Benefits

Establishes a Hong Kong VTL Quality Assurance Framework - provides a comprehensive and standardised set of benchmarking standards and a robust quality assurance framework for Hong Kong universities to systematically assess, enhance and sustain the quality of VTL.

Promotes Continuous Improvement and Accountability - enables systematic self-assessment to identify institutional strengths and weaknesses, drive targeted improvements and support benchmarking and strategic planning for VTL development and sustainability.

Ensures Long-Term Strategic Development and Sustainability - embeds quality assurance into institutional policies, planning and resource allocation, fostering consistency, accountability, and alignment with best practices across institutions.
Project Outcomes

Conduct systematic reviews of quality assurance (QA) processes for the purposes of establishing relevant benchmarking standards, performance indicators and performance measures in VTL that are aligned and tailored to the Hong Kong context.

Identify and review existing quality assurance frameworks and standards for VTL and evaluate whether these standards can be potentially employed or suitably modified to serve as frameworks specific to the relevant local Hong Kong context.

Apply VTL quality assurance (QA) standards cross-institutionally to ensure that these standards are adequately met and appropriately integrated into guided and professional best practices of VTL.
